Following serious surgery and a long period of chemotherapy, René Zuiderveld (1950) discovered photography quite by accident. Taking a compact camera along on his daily bike rides (meant to build his condition after his illness), René began to document the environment he’d lived so many decades in. Photography grew into a passion that developed from architectural and nature photography to portraits…and finally to a specialization in male photography.
In close cooperation with his models, René Zuiderveld creates photos that let us see The Male in suggestive, playful and erotic images. The work of the photographer often expresses itself through a sharp use of color, a nod to the kinky/fetish world, and through the sometimes joyful eroticism. Elements that have given Zuiderveld’s photographs a clearly recognizable signature, and quickly earned him many invitations to exhibit his work.
